Bumped by another runner on jumping away. Stewards questioned M. Du Plessis regarding the tactics he adopted as the horse settled further back in the field than at its most recent start. He explained that he had been given no specific instructions, however, from the wide alley he had anticipated that the horse would begin well and he would hopefully be able to take up a forward position. He added that after being bumped in the early stages and horses racing to the inside showing early speed, he elected to restrain to obtain a position closer to the fence with cover.

Stewards inquired into this incident and found that DACKARNA, after being steadied at the 750m, resented being restrained and was unable at that point to be controlled by its rider and shifted in causing the interference to ROZEIRA.

Shifted in abruptly near the 750m and made heavy contact with the hind quarters of BELVOIR and became awkward before shifting wider on the track. Connections were advised that a warning would be placed on the horse’s manners. Raced wide without cover throughout.

Jumped awkwardly and bumped another runner. Resented being restrained at the 750m, was unable to be controlled by its rider and shifted in, causing interference to ROZEIRA. Trainer J. Edwards was advised that the horse must officially trial prior to starting again.
