Shortly after the start was placed in restricted room and eased when runners either side shifted ground. Apprentice J. Oliver could offer no explanation for the horse’s performance. Trainer B. Currie also expressed disappointment with the performance, which he could only attribute to the horse failing to back up after racing on a heavy track at its most recent start and undertook to advise Stewards in the days subsequent to the event if anything comes to light which may have affected the performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities and a swab sample was taken.
