Stewards questioned jockey K. Yoshida in relation to the tactics adopted and, in particular, the reason for him shifting out to a 3 wide position leaving the 1000m. Jockey Yoshida explained that he had not been provided with any specific instructions, however as he had ridden the gelding at its most recent start, he was of the opinion that it is a one-paced horse and better suited to make a longer run. He went on to say that, for this reason, he elected to shift out to a 3 wide position and ride the gelding along leaving the 1000m. Stewards noted the explanation.

Began awkwardly. When questioned by Stewards regarding the seemingly disappointing performance, Apprentice M. Wishart advised that after being caught 3 wide without cover in the early stages, she permitted the gelding to stride forward to obtain a position with cover near the 1000m. She added that her mount travelled comfortably throughout, however when placed under pressure in the home straight it failed to respond to her riding. Refer to full report for comments from trainer's representative Mr. M. Currie. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding revealed no significant findings.
