Forced wider near the 1300m and was then permitted to stride forward to a position outside the lead near the 1000m. Jockey M. Rodd stated that it had not been his intention to lead, however when forced wider on the track in the early stages, he elected the to allow his mount to stride forward to obtain a position closer to the fence and did not wish to continue to pressure forward to the lead as it was the horses first start over 1600m and he felt that the tempo was genuine at that time.
