When questioned regarding her riding, Apprentice explained that her mount travelled comfortably in a favourable position, however shortly after straightening she attempted to shift out and obtain clear running, but was disappointed resulting in her having to shift back to the inside, where she was again held up when another runner shifted in, and she did not obtain clear running until inside the final 150 metres.

Stewards questioned Apprentice in regard to her ride. Apprentice said that she had been instructed to ride the gelding at the tail of the field. Trainer confirmed the instructions issued, however was surprised that the gelding was positioned as far back as it was. When asked why she did not attempt to improve her position, she said that she refrained from doing this as she was of the belief that the horse would over-race. Also of concern was the amount vigour shown in the home straight. Bearing in mind Apprentice's relative inexperience, Stewards referred her ride to the Riders Advisory Panel.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, Apprentice said that she had been instructed to lead on the gelding and dictate terms in front, however when another runner improved to her inside she was unable to establish a lead. She said that even allowing for this, in her opinion the gelding was most disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.
