When asked to explain the horse’s performance, R. Plumb stated that after being a little slow to begin the gelding refused to stretch out in the early stages despite his urgings and trailed the field by a significant distance. He added that he considered retiring the horse from the race but from the 600m it started to make steady ground and in the home straight closed the race off quite well. Stewards noted his explanation.
