Stewards asked jockey P. Hammersley to explain his actions after passing the 900m when he steadied and allowed BEL CLASSICO to take up a position forward of him behind the lead. He indicated he felt the horse was not travelling strong enough to hold a position behind the lead and felt he would be better served steadying and allowing jockey Thomas, rider of BEL CLASSICO, to cross at this stage of the race.

Jumped away awkwardly and made contact with another runner. Jockey T. Harrison reported that after being slow to begin the horse was able to muster sufficient pace to take up a position just behind the lead and travelled keenly to the 800m, and despite weakening over the concluding stages was of the view that the horse would appreciate a step up in distance where it would be able to take up a forward position without being pressured in the early stages.
